I needed to assemble a desktop computer from spare parts that perfectly caters to my daily needs. As software developer, I understand the importance of choosing the right components, and I have carefully selected each part to ensure optimal performance and future-upgradability. My Multi-Purpose Computer Goals

Before diving into the hardware, let's explore the diverse roles I envisioned for my new desktop computer:

Future-Proofing: I aimed to create a system that could be easily upgraded over time to keep up with evolving demands.
Development: As a Kotlin and Android app developer, my system had to handle resource-intensive tasks.
Gaming: While I prefer non-resource-hungry games like "Megaglest" and "Urban Terror", I wanted the flexibility to play more demanding titles like "Saints Row 4" in the future.
Server Hosting: I intended to use my desktop as a server for hosting Kotlin and Android apps, as well as a Jellyfin media server.

Choosing the Right Components

Now, let's delve into the specific components I selected to build my desktop computer:

Motherboard: ASROCK A620M Pro RS (2023-08-11 price 129,19€). It's a reliable choice, providing the foundation for future upgrades. Also, I don't need dedicated graphics right now, because I won't run any graphics intensive applications or games. So, CPU needs to have integrated graphics.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600 6C/12T 38MB cache 65W AM5 (2023-08-11 price 253,89€). With six cores, twelve threads, and a 38MB cache, it effortlessly handles demanding development processes and ensures a seamless workflow.
Thermal paste: Noctua NT-H1 3,5g (2023-08-11 price 10,19€).
RAM: KINGSTON 32GB 5600MT/s DDR5 (2023-08-11 price 119,99€).
Computer case: CHIEFTEC LIBRA LG-01B GAMING MIDI TOWER W/O PSU (2023-08-11 price 41,89€).
Power supply: Corsair CX450M 450W (2021-01-18 price 43,49€). I bought it for another computer, but haven't opened it till assembling this computer.
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB (ST2000DM001). I used it in another computer for few years.
Dedicated graphics card: I will buy it, when I will be using graphic intensive applications or games.

The Assembling Process and Overcoming Challenges

While my journey of assembling the computer went relatively smooth, I did encounter a minor obstacle. The power button of the computer case was not working initially. However, thanks to the assistance of a knowledgeable salesperson from local store "Skytech", the wire of the button was fixed promptly. It emphasizes the importance of reliable customer support and expert guidance, especially during such projects.

Software Selection: Arch Linux and Windows 11

To ensure a versatile computing experience, I have chosen to install ArchLinux as the primary operating system. With its robust customization options and extensive package repository, ArchLinux perfectly aligns with my software development needs. Additionally, I am also considering installing Windows 11 as a secondary operating system.
